Back to Basics - The Referral Slip

After being contacted by our membership co-ordinator I was asked to explain how to fill in a referral slip, something I thought was so simple, but as the membership coordinator pointed out so easy to get wrong and many of our members were getting it wrong.

Why does it matter I’ve given the business anyway ?

Any good business monitors its performance, incorrectly filled in referral slips mean that we can’t identify who is getting the business or who may need help. It is vital that the chapter maintains these records and as anyone who has done the membership coordinators roll will agree it is a difficualt enough task as it is.

So to the Referral slip.

The Date: fill in the date that you gave the business, Simple…

From:Your Name and if possible your company’s name there may be a visitor with your name in the chapter, Derek is a fairly rare name, but even I’ve been pulled up on this one….

To: The person and company the business is being or has been sent to.

Referral:A brief description of the business you are passing.

Comments: Anything that may help the receiver of this business, like don’t ring after 15:00, Already Passed by email or similar.

Contact Phone: Referrals MUST have either a phone number or an email address or some way of contacting the referee.

How Hot is this referral? Many of us have busy businesses, it is really nice to know if an immediate response is needed or a not so quick reply will do. Whatever happens the referral must be dealt with within a week.

Given your Card / Told then you would call:Give your fellow members a clue it enables them to contact the business and say I’m xxx I believe YYY gave you my card or to know that they are expecting you to ring them.
